Diána graduated from Radnóti High School in Budapest and earned a degree in Physics with a specialization in Astrophysics from Eötvös Loránd University. In 1996, she received her PhD in Environmental Science from the University of California. Since 2001, she has been a professor in the Department of Environmental Protection at Central European University in Budapest. Active in the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since 2002, she has contributed to its work in the years leading up to the organization being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. From 2007, she has served as Director of the Center for Climate and Sustainable Energy Policy Research at Central European University in Budapest. In parallel, she lectures at both domestic and international educational institutions. In recognition of her scientific work, she was awarded the Middle Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary in 2008.
